US Coffee Consumption is Declining Because of K-Cups
Actually coffee sales are up in the United States, but with over 25% of consumers in the US owning a Keurig single serve coffee maker coffee consumption is down. The reason is the “sink” is no longer consuming large amounts of coffee brewed in drip makers. Consumers are using the single serve coffee they drink, and quite honestly the amount of the decline isn’t that much - coffee consumption will drop in 2015-16 from 24 million 60kg bags to 23.7 million.
So wasting less coffee is a great thing, and with single serve coffee being a bit more expensive it makes sense that coffee sales are up. It’s interesting to see this tipping point in consumption around the 25% mark as well.
